Located behind the original building which fronts the street, ‘New Hotel’ houses some spacious and clean rooms, the best of which have small balconies — albeit with no view to speak of. Although the main reception area — which is also the restaurant — struck us as a bit gloomy, the corridors and rooms themselves are a good size and bright, and equipped with fridges, TVs, desks and bathtubs.
Note though the bedding is basic, so if you’re there in winter you might need warm PJs. Some rooms comfortably accommodate three or four beds, so are good for groups and with rooms starting at US$12 they’re a good price too. Cheaper rooms are available in the original building but it’s worth the upgrade to the new hotel. Breakfast is extra for the lower priced rooms but if you don’t fancy what’s on offer you’ll find a number of pho kitchens and coffee shops nearby. Staff is polite enough — and apparently speak English, French, German and Russian — although we’ve heard complaints about pricing and service problems, but overall it’s a reasonably choice for those on a budget.
