Cuc Phuong National Park is the first recognized and most well protected nature reserve in Vietnam. The Park’s primary tropical rainforest is home to an amazing variety of wildlife and in recent years several species have been discovered here. There are almost 2000 species of trees and amongst them lives some amazing and rare animals including the clouded leopard, Delacour’s Langur, Owston’s Civet, Otters and Asian Black Bears…

Cúc Phương is home to an amazing diversity of flora and fauna. Inhabitants of the park include 97 species of mammals, most notable endangered langurs; 300 species of birds; 36 reptilian species; 17 species of amphibians; 11 species of fish; 2,000 species of vascular plants, and thousands of species of insects. A number of species in the park are listed on Vietnam Red Book of endangered species.

Primates in the park include macaques, gibbon, François’s leaf monkey and slow loris. Other mammals include bats, porcupine, flying squirrel, small striped squirrel, belly-banded squirrel, and the rare black giant squirrel. In the past the park was home to Asiatic black bears, wild dogs, elephants, rhinos, and tigers, but over hunting and lack of prey have most led to the loss of these species. Leopards, clouded leopards, and jungle cats may still be present in the park.

Bird species include bar-backed partridge, scaly-breasted partridge, silver pheasant, red junglefowl, grey peacock-pheasant, laughingthrushes, red-vented barbet, green-eared barbet, scimitar-billed babblers, brown hawk-owl, scarlet minivet, racket-tailed drongos, racket-tailed treepie, white-winged blue magpie. Migrant species include thrushes, flycatchers, tits, finches, pipits amongst others. Hornbills can also be spotted in the forest.

Cuc Phuong Wildlife Experience

The Van Long submerged land, covering an area of 2,643 hectares, is the largest sub-merged natural protected site in North Vietnam. A rowing boat trip on the swampy water of Van Long is the time for you to truly enjoy, with all the senses, the beauty of nature.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Cuc Phuong National Park
 
8:00am: Leave Hanoi to Van Long Nature Reserve. Here we will take a sampan boat trip to admire the beauty of this area nature. Continue onto Cuc Phuong national park, once we have settled into our rooms, we will visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, Turtle Conversation Centre  and learn about the conversation works that are being done at this well protected National Park. A walk in the botanical garden is optional.

Evening: In the evening you, the national park guide will enter the pitch dark forest and use a spotting lamp and search for the forest numerous nocturnal creatures, which include civets, owls, flying squirrels, lorises, bats and cats..

Day 2: Cuc Phuong – Hanoi
 
8:00am: You will be awaked by the sounds of the jungle. After breakfast, leave headquarter of the national park for the primary forest from where you will trek for 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours, passing limestone slopes and tree of over a million years old. The destination is an ancient tree in the hope of seeing Cuc Phuong mascot and one of the rarest primates on the planet, the Delacour langur. We then are transferred back to Hanoi. Arrive in Hanoi at around 18:00 pm. Tour ends. (Breakfast, lunch)
